Thomas Mortlock
Thomas is Senior Risk Scientist (Coastal and Flood) at Risk Frontiers. He has over 10 years' professional experience in coastal geoscience, engineering and oceanography. He uses a range of modelling and geospatial tools to investigate coastal, marine and flood risk and improve critical resilience for the re/insurance industry and emergency management.
Thomas has a BSc in Oceanography, an MSc in Coastal Engineering and a PhD in Coastal Geoscience. He is an Adjunct Fellow in the Department of Environmental Sciences at Macquarie University and a Chartered (Marine) Engineer. He maintains an active research profile and has authored and reviewed numerous scientific papers and reports. He has a broad experience base working with and within government, industry and academia, both in Australia and internationally.
His current research interests include: climate change impacts on coastal waves and water levels, in particular the role of tropical expansion on directional wave climate change; and, leveraging the longer-term record of coastal hazard indicators to build a more holistic picture of the near-future coastal risk environment.
